Theadore Roosevelt National Park, ND

Breathtaking landscapes and iconic bison herds.

When Theodore Roosevelt came to the Dakota Territory to hunt bison in 1883, he was a skinny, young, spectacled dude from New York. He could not have imagined how his adventure in this remote and unfamiliar place would forever alter the course of the nation. The rugged landscape and strenuous life that TR experienced here would help shape a conservation policy that we still benefit from today. Theodore Roosevelt National Park truly captures the essence of the American West with its breathtaking landscapes and iconic bison herds. You could witness these majestic creatures roaming freely in their natural habitat, creating a symphony of sights and sounds that is truly unforgettable.

SAMPLE ITINERARY

Day 1

Your trip begins in Dickinson, ND, billed as "The Western Edge of North Dakota". Depending on arrival time we may be able to take a short but beautiful drive past scenic farmlands of yellows, greens, purples and browns to the Painted Canyon Visitor Center which will be our first glimpse into the park. On our return to Dickinson we will check into our rooms, perhaps relax a bit then head to for the first of our group dinners

We start our day with an early breakfast then head west to Theodore Roosevelt National Park, north unit, 71 miles (~1hr) away. Our first hike, and longest drive, is in the north unit of Theodore Roosevelt National Park. Once in the park the 17mile scenic drive includes over 40 miles of interconnecting trails that traverse a mixture of river bottom and grassy buttes with some trails requiring steep climbs or descents and present us with spectacular scenery. As our day turns to afternoon our return takes us past beautiful and vast farm, ranch and National Grasslands back to relax before the first of our group dinners in Dickinson.

Day 3

TRNP, South Unit: Lower Paddock - Lower Talkington - Jones Creek Loop

Distance: ~12miles (19km), Elevation Gain: 1,257′ (383m)

After breakfast, we head west to Medora, ND and Theodore Roosevelt National Park, South Unit where we begin our second hike. The south unit and main headquarters of the park is located just 30 minutes from Dickinson and features 36 miles of paved road winding through the badlands plus more than 60 miles of marked trails, plus countless unmarked trails. We will return to Medora with a stop for refreshing drinks before returning home to relax and unwind after a day in the park.

Day 4

TRNP, South Unit: Ekblom-Maah Daah Hey-Petrified Forest-Lone Tree Loop
