Prepare for you trip!

A hiker’s attire is all about practicality, substance over style and wearing layers. Layering your clothing is a tried-and-true way to ensure your comfort in the outdoors. Conventional wisdom is that you should dress in three layers: a base layer to manage moisture, a middle layer to provide insulation, and an outer layer (a shell) to protect you from the elements such as wind and rain. The beauty of this simple concept is that it allows you to make quick adjustments based on your activity level and changes in the weather.

We need items that will keep us dry when it’s wet, warm when it’s cold and cool when it’s hot. Breathable. Comfortable. Lightweight. Durable. Affordable. If your adventure is taking you to colder conditions, it’s common to have multiple insulating layers which can be added or removed to fine tune the system for immediate conditions. Did I miss anything? Oh yes, these days outdoor gear is getting lighter, easily packable and depending on the manufacturer, sustainably sourced and worth the investment. For purposes of weight and space, all these attributes should be accounted for in as few items as possible. Big ask, I know!

Look at our gear lists below to make sure you have everything you may need for your upcoming adventure. If you have any questions, please contact us at 1.907.903.3981
